A8N-SLI Deluxe 2GB OCZ PC3200EL Dual Channel

Postby drisley » Sat Sep 17, 2005 2:11 pm

I just upgraded from 2 x 512mb OCZ PC3200 EL Dual Channel ram that ran perfectly at spec timings 2-3-5 Cas2 1T timings for 6 months.

Now I have 2 x 1GB OCZ PC3200 EL Dual Channel 2-2-3-5 ram.
For some reason I can't get this to run stably at both Cas2 and 1T timinings.
I either have to use Cas2.5 at 1T or Cas2 at 2T.
If I don't I get blue screens of death in windows using memory testing software, and errors reported in Memtest86.
OCZ support says the A8N-SLI is known for 1t/2T problems, but like I said my old memory was fine.
Has anybody here got their 2GB OCZ PC3200 memory to run stably at Cas2 and 1T timings on this board?
Btw, I tried upping the voltage from 2.6v to 2.8v, and that actually makes it less stable.
I'm not overclocking at all.

with just a single stick inserted is all well? there may be a "poor" stick and a good stick....

I seem to have that same problem with my A8N SLI deluxe and my Corsair 1gig matched pair C2.
If i put my timings to cas 2 or 2.5 then my 1T/2T timing has to be 2T which results in performance loss, how ever if i leave mem timings at SPD 3,3,3,8 then i can set my 1T 2T timing to 1T and i get much better performance.

Would this have anything to do with the CPU core? ie mine is Newcastle/Clawhammer (comes up differently in different versions of CPUID)

Does the new winnies and venice have a better memory controler? or is it simply the asus mobos?

It's quite common for 1GB sticks to not run with a CAS level of anything except 3, i'd be happy to run them at 2.5 in all honesty.

i run corsair 1GB modules at C2.5 with a command rate of T1.
That is the best you can do at the moment with 1GB modules.

the 64x8 or 128x4 chips used for the modules don't allow any faster timings currently.
Cheers,

I'm running the same OCZ memory on my A8N-SLI Premium.

The timmings should be : 2-3-2-5-1T (NOT.... 2-2-3-5-1T)

Sofar @ stock speeds I've had no issues w/ this ram & board combo.
