Compared to other speaker sets, the sound quality on Edifier’s S5.1s is up there with the best. The subwoofer doesn’t have the power or range to compete with the Logitech Z680s or Creative Gigaworks S750s but I believe that the Edifier satellites are better than those of either set. Where the Edifier falls short compared to other high-end sets is the features list. Both the Z680s and S750s are THX certified, have external control pods with headphone jacks, and the Z680s even add coaxial and optical digital inputs. Finding a retailer for the Edifier systems is rather tough, but I was able to find them for $285. This is well under the cost of the Gigaworks S750, but is about $50 more than the Logitech Z680s. That price differential makes the Edifier system hard to recommend over the Z680 system with its more comprehensive feature set. However, if you decide to buy these speakers I am sure you will be pleased with how they perform.
