DFI NF4 Ultra-D Motherboard Review

March 9th 2005 | nForce4

The UT nF4 Ultra-D is one of DFI’s latest AMD socket 939 motherboard solutions. The motherboard uses the NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra chipset, which supports all Athlon64 socket 939 type processors, DDR type SDRAM RAM operating in Dual Channel mode up to speeds of 400MHz officially, as well as PCI Express x16 based video cards operating in either single card mode or dual card configuration. In dual card configuration, the board supports multi-monitor mode. The nF4 Ultra-D is a complete solution out of the box, requiring an Athlon64 socket 939-based CPU, DDR memory, PCI Express video card, drives, and PSU for a functional system.

..DFI has a great product in the NF4 Ultra-D, but there is simply almost no reason to buy this board when something like the DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR is available that packs the same kind of tremendous benchmark numbers and does officially support SLI. But wait; there is a flipside to this that breaks away from the mainstream system builder.

If you are feeling a bit on the wild side are looking to take some risk and hopefully land an inexpensive SLI board through some hardware modding, then the DFI NF4 Ultra-D is exactly the motherboard you are looking for. Couple some hardware hacking along with what are simply stellar overclocking features in terms of voltages and MHz limits and you have an ultimate hardware enthusiast’s motherboard. I have a feeling we will be seeing many of these motherboards in more daring readers cases.
