Corsair Announces Comprehensive Support for AMD’s Opteron Processor
Fremont, CA, April 22, 2003: Corsair Memory, Inc., an industry leader in ultra-performance DDR DRAM modules for high-reliability rackmount server applications, has announced the availability of a family of memory products designed and qualified for use on motherboards based on the Opteron(tm) processor from Advanced Micro Devices.
The Opteron system architecture presents a significant departure from previous memory architectures. Rather than communicating with main memory by way of the motherboard’s chip set, the Opteron communicates directly with the memory over a dedicated dual-channel memory bus, thus bypassing the chip set. This memory bus utilizes registered memory with Error Checking and Colrrection (ECC), and runs at bus speeds of either 266 MHz or 333 MHz.
Corsair has qualified several memory modules for use on Opteron platforms. Module qualification has been performed both within Corsair’s labs as well as at the facilities of leading suppliers of Opteron platforms. The key products for the Opteron platform are as follows:
CM72SD512RLP-2700: This module is a 512 MByte, registered PC2700 compatible (DDR333) module with ECC. It is built using eighteen 32Mx8 DDR SDRAMs. It has a maximum height of 1.2 inches, making it optimal for use in low profile 1U rackmount applications.
CM74SD1024RLP-2700: This module is a 1 GByte, registered PC2700 compatible (DDR333) module with ECC. It is built using eighteen stacked pairs of 64Mx4 DDR SDRAMs. It has a maximum height of 1.2 inches, making it optimal for use in low profile 1U rackmount applications.
CM78SD1024R-2100: This module is a 1 GByte, registered PC2100 compatible (DDR266) module with ECC. It is built using thirty-six unstacked 64Mx4 DDR SDRAMs, resulting in exceptionally low cost for a 1 GByte module. This module’s maximum height of 2.0 inches makes this module ideal for use in 2U and pedestal applications.
CM74SD2048RLP-2100: This module is a 2 GByte, registered PC2100 compatible (DDR266) module with ECC. It is built using eighteen stacked pairs of 128Mx4 DDR SDRAMs. It has a maximum height of 1.2 inches, making it optimal for use in low profile 1U rackmount applications. The 2 GByte size of this module allows the configuration of very large memory subsystems.
These memory products are all available now in production quantities.
“The ability of the Opteron to provide outstanding performance for both 32-bit and 64-bit applications is of great interest to Corsair’s server customers,” stated Joe James, North American OEM Sales Manager at Corsair. “The early demand for Memory for Opteron platforms has been truly remarkable.”
