Battlefield 2 v1.03 Patch Unranked Servers, New Map

The third update for Battlefield 2 has been released, upgrading this sequel to Battlefield 1942 developed by Digital Illusions to v1.03.

The update adds a new map (Wake Island), various gameplay changes and several bugfixes, and improves improve support for mods. New Linux and Windows servers are also available.

Before you update, take a look at the Inquirer’s article “Battlefield 2 patch suffers woes - Locks CD-key to other Windows account“:

It looks like the 1.03 patch encrypts the CD-key value in the windows registry. Most likely this is done to avoid the theft of CD-keys by malicious software while you’re playing online. It’s a clever move. Unfortunately, it looks like this encryption of the CD-key is specific to the Windows User Account that was used to install the patch. If any other Windows user attempts to play the game on the same machine they are given a message saying the key is invalid.
