The ATI Radeon X850XT-PE isn’t a viable upgrade for those that already have X800XT’s or X800XT-PE’s, even if it was an AGP card. In fact it seems to be what the X800XT-PE should have been if it would have ever had any real retail availability. However, if you are moving to a new PCI-Express platform, and want the best from ATI, the X850XT-PE will obviously fit the bill.
Make no bones about it, the X850XT-PE can easily best the NVIDIA 6800Ultra in many of today’s latest 3D gaming titles, and Catalyst driver maturation is evident in these latest evaluations. And while it does fall a bit behind in DOOM 3, it hardly delivers anything close to what could be described as “bad” performance. Still, at a suggested retail price of US$549, the Radeon X850XT-PE should give you nothing less than the ultimate gaming experience in every gaming title.
