Systemcooling reviews ATi’s budget video card, the Radeon 9600XT:
Today’s games require plenty of video card. The problem is that most of us need to eat, pay rent and do all of those other cool things that require cash. We don’t have the money to buy the top of the line, but we want to compromise as little as possible. Is there a video card out there that will play current games at full tilt and yet not stumble when the next generation of DirectX 9 games hit the street? The ATI 9600XT 128MB might just be a good choice.. And if you readers think that we humble reviewers have it made, let it be known that the Half-Life 2 coupon listed on the box is not included in ATI review samples such as this. Ok, we do have it made, but it’d be better with the coupon.
. . . The ATI Radeon 9600XT is an excellent card that fits right in with those of us on a budget. The Radeon gives you the ability to play any game available today, and it also should provide some comfort in the fact that the hotly anticipated DX9 games of the future will be covered as well. Though not a monster overclocker, this is a good, steady, stable video card. If you are building a new box or just trying to replace an older card, the ATI 9600 XT is a good way to go without forcing you to skip meals for a few weeks.
