ASUS A8N-SLI nForce4 SLI Motherboard Review

January 31st 2005 | nForce4

The ASUS A8N-SLI proved to be the most stable SLI board in our tests finishing all SLI benchmarks without any instability issues with our 400W PSU which is certainly impressive. It’s also a very feature rich board with two Gigabit LAN controllers and two RAID controllers. ASUS does a nice job with the BIOS as well allowing you to tinker the system to your liking while overclocking was pretty good as well with us reaching 310MHz FSB. Performance is also on par with the rest of the nForce4 boards while packaging is also top notch.

There are a few rough edges like ClockGen messing up the file system and PC Mark’s memory test refusing to complete but we think that both of these problems will be solved with BIOS upgrades. We think that the ASUS matches both the previously reviewed Gigabyte and MSI SLI boards in terms of features and performance. Where it does excel is stability proving to be more stable that both the other SLI boards in our labs. Stability was the only reason we weren’t recommending SLI boards in the past but with that sorted, we have no problems recommending the A8N-SLI.
