Zalman ZM-RS6F 5.1 USB Headphones Review

August 16th 2007 | Multimedia

What Zalman has done to refresh the ZM-RS6Fs is to integrate a USB sound card and add a USB connector on the end of the cable. Instead of using a USB 1.1 Sonix chip, Zalman has moved to C-Media for the fully USB 2.0 compatible CM6206. Sadly this USB audio controller doesn’t support DTS, although it does Dolby Digital streaming. The CM6206 also supports 7.1-channel sound, but in the case with the ZM-RS6Fs you only got six speakers. This means that you can go 5.1 or virtual 7.1.

..Though these headphones aren’t readily available just yet, Zalman have kindly let us know what you can expect to pay for them. You’re looking at dishing out $74.50 USD for a pair of these, certainly not cheap. There are definitely better solutions out there if you just want a basic pair of USB headphones, but most won’t feature 5.1-channel, or at least real surround sound in terms of having six speakers as these do.
