Microsoft Xbox division chief Peter Moore will be leaving his position in Redmond to join game developer Electronic Arts as president of the EA Sports label. Moore’s position as vice president of Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices division will be filled by Don Mattrick, a former president at Electronic Arts who more recently worked with Moore as an external adviser for Microsoft.

In addition to his new position, Moore will receive an annual base salary of $550,000 (plus a discretionary target bonus percentage of 75 percent of annual base salary), one-time bonus of $1.5 million, the option to purchase 350,000 shares of company stock and relocation-related expenses of $330,000.

Moore has done well at Vole and managed to get the Xbox 360 a large chunk of market share at the expense of Sony’s Playstation. How ever it is fairly clear that all was not well with Moore lately. He missed a few sales targets and there was the small matter of the Xbox 360 having huge warranty problems on his watch which look set to cost Vole a billion or so.

It does not look like he has been given the push and will stay at his office until August. Officially he has had enough of Redmond and wants to move back to the San Francisco Bay area to live with his family.
