Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Notebook Review

June 13th 2007 | Laptops

The newest upgrade to the ThinkPad’s popular T series is the T61, which is a revision of the T60, but comes along with a number of big changes including a 14.1″ widescreen and Intel’s Centrino Duo platform. The move to Centrino Duo, also know as Santa Rosa, is especially interesting because it means that there are also changes to the processor, chipset, and wireless interface. The T series notebooks are the powerhouses of the ThinkPad line so any changes to them are a big deal. These portable workstations are popular with many users who have come to rely on their performance and dependability. They may not be as light as the X61s or as cool as a new Sony ultraportable but they have come to be recognized as the ThinkPad user’s ThinkPad.

..After spending a considerable amount of time with the T61 I have found it to be an excellent notebook. It would be a great choice for anyone looking for a mid-sized widescreen so long as they value performance over portability and are willing to spend the extra money on the security, features, and build quality that go along with the ThinkPad’s T series.

Some of the most attractive qualities of the T61 are what separate it from the previous model, the T60, as well as other models, like the Z61t. These are numerous, but they include improved cooler, longer battery life, and the Santa Rosa platform which in turn includes upgrades to the CPU, wireless connectivity, and chipset. Some users may actually prefer the T60 because it is a bit thinner and does not have a widescreen display, but all told, the trade up to the T61 is worth it.
