Opera 8.01Has Dialog Origin Spoofing Fix

June 24th 2005 | General

As an update, and correction, to the article Pop-up Vulnerability in Browsers - Opera 8.01 Has Fix: Opera does have a fix for the issue in version 8.01, which was released on the very same day the vulnerability was made public.

After revisiting the Secunia test site with Opera 8.01, and running the test again, I can confirm that the origin of the dialog box pop-up is displayed - “www.google.com.secunia.com.”

As Christen Krogh, Vice President Engineering Opera Software, informs us, “Displaying this information to the user enables the user to verify that the dialog is initiated from a suspicious domain. If you read Secunia’s advisory concerning Opera’s status re this vulnerability you will also see that the solution is to update to Opera 8.01“.
