Antec Sonata 2004 Edition Case Review

December 6th 2004 | Cases & Acc.

The Antec Sonata is probably one of the most well-known computer cases among enthusiasts for the simple fact that it was the first case designed by Antec for “quiet running”. That and the fact it came with many new features (Side-mount HDD rack w/ special “quiet” mountings, “piano black” paint job and a special version of the TruePower 380w PSU designed for quiet operation) caught many an enthusiast or silent PC addict’s eye. This is a review of the revised Antec Sonata.

…While there have been some changes since last year’s model of the case, the devotion to a stable chassis, quiet operation, and adequate cooling have remained solid. This case is a fine choice for anyone looking to put a rig in a highly-visible area without trying to all too much attention to it being there. It’s a good buy any way you look at it.

Score: 92 points

+ Shiny Case
+ Bright blue lights
+ Power Supply is hugely improved
+ Quiet Features
+ Front Panel Connectors all Intel® Standard
+ Air Filter
- Case lock is generic
- Antec logo punch out is dust friendly
- PSU still a bit noisy
- I’d prefer both side panels to be removable
