AMD Opteron 246 to Arrive Next Week?

July 2nd 2003 | CPUs & Chipsets

The first ever AMD64 aka x86-64 microprocessor is presumably set to be launched next Monday, a report from a French web-site PCInpact.com says. According to earlier unofficial claims, the part was originally meant to be introduced yesterday, on the 30th of June, but low yields kept AMD away from its 2GHz Opteron processor for servers and workstations in June.

The part is intended to work in 2P machines, but its price will still be very high. Unofficial reports note over here it will achieve 1850 Euros or more than $2100, while the highest-end Opteron 244 model cost $794 at this time.
