AMD Athlon64 X2 4800+ 65nm Processor Review

March 8th 2007 | CPUs & Chipsets

The Socket AM2 AMD Athlon64 X2 4800+ processor (2.5GHz) offers us a decent mix of performance and value, with a retail price of $253 CDN ($215 US, £112GBP) it certainly won’t break the bank either. The Athlon64 X2 4800+ is built on AMD’s 65 nanometer manufacturing process, and this means it will help to address the power and heat issue that PCSTATS has been commenting on for the last six months. We do like it when processors become more powerful and more energy efficient, after all.

..As we saw in the benchmarks the Socket AM2 AMD Athlon64 X2 4800+ processor is pretty quick around the track. It slots itself right behind the Athlon64 X2 5000+, exactly where we expect it. The chip offers up good performance for the money. The 65 nm Athlon64 X2 4800+ was a pretty good overclocker, hitting 3.03 GHz in PCSTATS tests.
