Altec Lansing VS4121 2.1 Computer Speaker System Review

July 5th 2004 | Multimedia

If you put a lot of effort ripping your own CDs, buying your favorite MP3s online or watching DVD Video, your high quality audio will be downgraded to raspy low quality garbage if you choose to play your tracks through substandard speakers. Contrary to popular belief, excellent stereo 2.1 sound systems can be purchased for well under US$70 if you do some thrifty shopping. That being said, today I will be reviewing Altec Lansing’s recently released VS4121 computer speaker system. With full three way sound, excellent aesthetics and a decent price tag, you might want to stick around if you are in the market for a new stereo speaker system.

…On initial setup, I was rather impressed with the VS4121’s modern and stylish appearance. But unfortunately, that was the high point. Don’t get me wrong, this speaker system will absolutely walk all over your basic OEM competition, but it lacks the mid and lower range kick I have personally witnessed when reviewing Altec Lansing’s previous model line.

Am I being a little tough on this product? Well……..no. I have used Altec Lansing systems on my personal rig going on two years now and I am extremely happy. If you want a little more kick for your hard earned and almighty dollar, I would seriously recommend you checking out the Altec Lansing 221 system I reviewed close to two years ago. They are still an amazingly hot seller and pack a very hard punch for the dollar.
