Altec Lansing is a company that quickly comes to mind when discussing good audio systems at a reasonable price. Currently, I use a 5.1 Altec Lansing setup on my work computer and 2.1 on the benchmarking computer. Needless to say, their speaker sets have always fit my budget, and provide quality sound that I am looking for. Last month, they announced the release of the FX4021 and FX5051, the latter being a USB based 5.1 setup.
..If you are looking for a great 2.1 sound system for your PC, you will not go wrong with the FX4021. It’s a quality set that’s well priced [SRP $US129.99], despite it not being 5.1. But… that’s another option you may want to consider. Logitech just released an update to their X-530’s, the X-540 which are indeed 5.1 speakers that currently retail for $100. The power per satellite is not as great as the FX4021, but the 5 speakers should make up for that. It’s just something to take into consideration.
