An anonymous philosopher once said: “While it is possible to change without improving, it is impossible to improve without changing.” In that spirit, Alienware announced earlier today that it had agreed to be acquired by Dell.

As Alienware’s Chief Executive Officer and one of the company’s original co-founders, I believe we have an obligation to lay out the rationale and logic behind our decision.. ..We truly believe this announcement lays the groundwork for an exciting future - for our employees and, most importantly, our growing base of fanatical customers.

In an interesting turn of events, CEO of Alienware sent an e-mail to all of the soon-to-be "Dellienware" staff explaining why the company has accepted the offer and what Dell will do for it in the future. The email is a bit different that the one written and approved by Dull’s company watchdogs.

This purchase is a rarity for Dell, which loathes acquisitions. Dell, however, has seen desktop profits stall in recent months, as it gets harder and harder to make money off the kit. Alienware opens up a way to make money off gamers and other horsepower hungry types that are willing to pay more for the latest and greatest gear. In addition, the Alienware line will add some style to Dell’s uninspired designs.

Dell did not disclose financial terms around the deal, which should close in the next two months.
