As a step in the direction of diversifying our OEM systems evaluation program, we take a look at a laptop from ABS. ABS has been in the systems integration business for 15 years and is the OEM behind Newegg.com. Carrying a 6600 Go and touted by ABS as a gaming laptop, the bar is set.
This great company made a great computer. It had a lot of misses, and didn’t blow my socks off as a gaming solution, but it performed about as I expected it to and it didn’t give me any stability or heat issues. I expected the Pentium M to be a bit more effective and the hard drive was terribly slow. That said, I’m not sure I’ve seen a better constructed or better looking laptop recently. The quality of construction and ABS’s commitment to customer service is admirable and engenders even more respect from me toward this OEM. If you’re in the market for a solid system from a respected OEM, you should give the laptop line-up over at ABS a hard look.
