ABIT - And More On ABIT & NVIDIA

January 12th 2004 | Hardware

The Inquirer has dug a little deeper into the ABIT & NVIDIA split it reported earlier last week. Today, ABIT released press announcing it’s new partnership with ATi to pruduce ABIT engineered ATI VGA cards. Meanwhile, back at the nFHQ, we’re hearing it’s business as usual with regards to motherboard products, the nForce is still strong between ABIT and NV - and better yet, ABIT are still working on nForce3. We’ll wait and see if NV or ABIT release some official info to lay this one to rest. Here’s a snip from the INQ:

After seeing an Nvidia memo we rang to see if we could clarify the "irreconcilable" differences cited as the reason for the spit, but while the firm confirmed it was no longer working with Abit, a representative declined to comment further on the reasons. Except to say that such differences were nothing to do with Abit talking to ATI for its graphics cards. Last week, INQUIRER staff visited the Abit booth at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and staff there reacted in bewilderment to the news. Indeed, Abit put out a press release last week affirming its continuing relationship with Nvidia, further compounding the puzzle.

The always active rumour mill here in the UK hasn’t been able to shed much light on the spat – although several channel players did suggest that Abit was, indeed, talking to ATI. One suggested that the split wasn’t related to motherboards, but just to graphics cards.
