ABIT - ABIT NF7-S Review @ HardOCP

March 26th 2003 | Hardware

HardOCP teakes a look at revision 1.2 of the ABIT NF7-S:

Looking at the two boards side by side, there are two very obvious differences between them. Most noticeable is the coloring of the PCB. ABIT chose to change the color from the standard tan color to an orange-red tone. This board would look very showy in a case with a window and some decent lighting now. The other obvious modification to the board is the addition of 4 HSF mounting holes around the CPU socket.

There is one problem with the orientation of the mounting holes. If you look at the mounting hole closes to the board edge and next to the CPU hold down lever, there is a chip very close to the hole itself. This chip could easily get in the way of a mounted hold down mechanism or could even be crushed. This would most likely render the board useless. Other than that, ABIT did a very good job of keeping the area around the mounting holes and the socket clear of obstructions. We think since these holes are a “retrofit” there were simply some components that could not be moved. Just be aware that there might be an obstruction and work around it to keep from damaging the board.
