ABIT - ABIT NF7-S Rev 2.0 Vs ABIT NF7-S2

September 6th 2004 | Hardware

The Abit NF7 series is undoubtedly a popular group of motherboards due to their overclocking potential, features, and performance. However, there has been some recent confusion between the Abit NF7-S2 and the NF7-S rev2.0. In this review, we will put both motherboards to the test, to see which one is better for your system.

…When both boards were running at stock speeds with testbed configuration #1, it was a tremendously close race between the Abit NF7-S rev2.0 (V2) and the NF7-S2. Due to lack of overclocking features (extensive voltage adjustment & multiplier adjustment), SoundStorm, active Northbridge cooling, and Serillel2 with the NF7-S2, we would recommend the NF7-S rev2.0 to the die-hard computer enthusiast.

However, if you don’t expect to overclock your system, or at least not too much, and are just looking for a great Socket A motherboard overall, and price is a factor in your decision we would recommend the NF7-S2 due to its low price of about $70 compared to the NF7-S rev2.0 which sells for $83-90. Overall, Abit’s NF7-S revision 2.0 is one extravagant motherboard for Socket A (462) systems.

Pros:
∙ Numerous Overclocking Options
∙ SoundStorm
∙ Great Performance
∙ Plenty of Features
∙ Serillel2
∙ Onboard Firewire
Cons:
∙ More expensive than Abit NF7-S2
∙ Not many accessories
∙ Only two USB ports on I/O panel
∙ 10/100M LAN
